President’s Message: Farewell from Brad D. Carlson
As I write this final message as President, I am filled with immense gratitude and pride for all that we have accomplished together. Serving as your President has been an incredible honor, and I am deeply thankful for the opportunity to lead this remarkable organization over the past two years.
Reflecting on our journey, AMS is much more than an association; it’s a vibrant academic family that thrives on fellowship, collaboration, and the pursuit of knowledge. From our conferences to our journals, AMS continues to grow in size, stature, and impact, thanks to the dedication of so many passionate individuals. Whether you are a long-time member or new to our community, you are an integral part of this shared success.
I am incredibly proud of the new initiatives we have launched together. From our rebranding efforts, to bridging the gap with AMS Sparks and AMS Illuminations, to the acquisition of the Marketing PhD Jobs website, we have taken meaningful steps to enhance our member experience, expand our career services, and elevate our impact on marketing practice. Your commitment to embracing these changes has been inspiring, and I am grateful to everyone who has played a part in these efforts.
Our conferences continue to be a cornerstone of AMS, providing unmatched opportunities to connect, share ideas, and forge lasting friendships. The recent gatherings in Coral Gables and Mauritius were a testament to the incredible energy and engagement of our community. I am especially grateful to the program chairs and all members who contributed to making these events such resounding successes. I eagerly look forward to the upcoming Annual Conference in Montreal and the World Marketing Congress in Dijon—each promises to be another outstanding opportunity for us to learn, connect, and grow together.
Throughout these two years, the work of our journals, the Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science (JAMS) and the Academy of Marketing Science Review (AMSR), has continued to be extraordinary. Thanks to the leadership of our editors and the dedication of their teams, these publications have solidified their positions as leading voices in our field. As we continue to navigate the evolving landscape of marketing, our commitment to advancing high-quality research and fostering thought leadership remains unwavering.
I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to Marko, who will be stepping in as the next President, and to the newly elected Executive Committee members. Marko, I have no doubt that your vision and leadership will guide AMS to even greater heights. To our new EC members, welcome! Your fresh perspectives will be invaluable as we continue to build on the progress we’ve made.
Serving as your President has been a joyful and rewarding experience, made possible by the collective dedication of our members, officers, and leadership. Together, we have reignited AMS, pushing forward initiatives that strengthen our community and elevate our impact on the marketing discipline. I look forward to continuing this journey with you, now in a new role, and remain committed to supporting our shared mission.
Thank you all for your partnership, passion, and unwavering support. Let us continue to lead with gratitude and empathy, striving to make our field a more inclusive, caring, and impactful one.
With deepest appreciation,
Brad D. Carlson
