William R. Darden Best Research Methodology Paper Award

The William R. Darden Best Research Methodology Paper Award is awarded to an outstanding paper at the AMS Annual Conference that includes rigorous application or advancement of methods or tools related to marketing research.

The award was named in honor and memory of Dr. William R. Darden, who was an early marketing pioneer in the application of multivariate data analysis and structural equations modeling, in particular. He held academic jobs at Louisiana State University, the University of Georgia and the University of Arkansas. Bill made numerous contributions to the marketing discipline, including being one of the most prolific contributors to the Journal of Marketing Research (JAMS), where he also served as editor. He was also an editor of the Journal of Retailing and the Journal of Business Research. Bill was active with AMS in multiple official capacities and was recognized as AMS Distinguished Marketing Educator.


Eligibility Requirements

All papers submitted to the AMS Annual Conference, with the exception of papers submitted to special sessions, are eligible for the William R. Darden Best Research Methodology Paper Award. The awarded paper can come from any track.  


Selection Process

Winners are selected through a process overseen by the AMS Annual Conference Program Chair(s). At the discretion of the Program Chair(s), a subcommittee may assist in the selection process. Papers are nominated for the award by reviewers through the competitive review process. The Program Chair(s) is responsible for selecting the final choice for the award. The William R. Darden Best Research Methodology Paper Award nominees are not limited to a track that is specifically set up as “Marketing Research” or a similar name.  


Winner Recognition

Winners are awarded a certificate in addition to a $150* check drawn from a U.S. bank. Wire transactions are available for international recipients. Note: For papers with more than one author, the certificate and funds will be distributed to the first author.  It is at the discretion of the first author to divide the funds.
